To Whom It May Concern: 

As a [parent, teacher, community member] in the Bay Shore School District, I am writing to strongly oppose the Academy Charter School Brentwood Elementary School, Academy Charter School Brentwood Middle School, and Academy Charter School Central Islip High School that have submitted applications to the SUNY Charter Schools Institute. There is neither a need nor a demand for additional charter schools on Long Island. The Bay Shore School District provides many programs that benefit the diverse needs of its students. Any charter school that comes into this area would only pull funding away from existing programs while providing no additional benefit to Bay Shore’s students. 

I sincerely hope that the SUNY Charter Schools Institute will deny these proposed charter school applications. There is a growing awareness that charter schools are not the panacea advocates have long suggested. Furthermore, they drain vital resources from traditional publicly funded and operated school districts, which the vast majority of America’s schoolchildren attend.
