Overview

The Bay Shore Family and Consumer Sciences Department prepares students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to make informed decisions and lead healthy, productive, and independent lives. Through authentic, hands-on learning experiences, students develop essential life skills while exploring topics such as nutrition and wellness, food preparation, child development, financial literacy, textiles and design, and career readiness. Aligned with the New York State Family and Consumer Sciences Learning Standards, our program empowers students to think critically, solve real-world problems, and build the confidence needed for success in school, careers, and everyday life.

Grade 6-8 Science Curriculum at a Glance +

The middle school Family and Consumer Sciences program engages 7th and 8th grade students in hands-on learning experiences that develop essential life skills for success at home, in school, and in the community. Through authentic, real-world activities, students build confidence in nutrition, food preparation, wellness, personal responsibility, and informed decision-making while exploring topics that promote healthy, independent living. Designed to foster creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking, the program encourages students to apply practical skills to everyday situations while developing habits that support lifelong personal growth and success.
