At Bay Shore Middle School, our English Language Arts program is designed to support students as they grow into confident readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. The curriculum is aligned with the New York State Education Department’s core curriculum and Next Generation Learning Standards (NGLS), and our talented teachers provide engaging, thoughtful instruction at every grade level.
Students at BSMS have opportunities to explore their ELA-based interests beyond the classroom through clubs such as The ‘Write’ Way Creative Writing Club, Broadcast Journalism and the BSMS News Crew, and our school newspaper, The Millennium. To monitor progress and tailor literacy instruction, students complete the i-Ready diagnostic three times per year.
By the end of middle school, students build a strong foundation in literacy skills, preparing them for success in high school and across all content areas.
